1st Base is the UK's first interactive baseball batting cage, wrapped inside an American-style activity bar in the centre of Southampton. It's competitive socialising — you step up to the plate, real balls are pitched at you at 25mph from a machine around 10 metres away, and your job is simply to smash them as hard as you can.
The batting cage runs on HitTrax sensor technology, which tracks pitch velocity, launch angle and exit velocity, then plays your hits out on a virtual-reality baseball field displayed on large monitors around the venue. Groups compete against each other to see who can hit the furthest ball, or land a home run. No experience needed — if you can play rounders, you can play baseball — and it's suitable for ages 8 to 80, with under-8s able to bat off a tee.
Away from the cage, the venue is a full multi-games bar: shuffleboard, ping-pong, basketball and foosball, all playable on arrival without a booking. There's a fully stocked bar with cocktails always 2 for £14 and shooters at 4 for £12, plus jumbo hot dogs, pizzas (veggie, vegan and gluten-free options) and snacks. Guests control the free jukebox and set their own vibe.
Only one booking runs at a time — no mixed groups — so every party effectively has the run of the place. Standard sessions are 1 or 2 hours, from £12 and £17 per person respectively, with dynamic pricing that drops as group size grows and automatic concession pricing for family groups with under-18s. Premium Parties from £25pp give exclusive venue access for up to 40 people, including everyone's first drink, hot dogs, pizzas, unlimited refill bowls of snacks and unlimited jukebox.
It works for just about any occasion: stag dos, hen parties, birthdays, corporate events and team building, kids' parties, date nights, family days out and student socials. Fully indoor, so weather never kills a booking. Dog-friendly, cashless, and with a long history of welcoming SEND groups.
The venue sits at 16 East Street, SO14 3HG — a short walk from the Bargate and Southampton's main nightlife strip, directly opposite the Eastgate multi-storey car park, and roughly a five-minute cab from Southampton Central. Open 10am–10pm Saturday and Sunday, 12pm–10pm Monday to Friday.
The reputation backs it up: 4.9 out of 5 on Google, 5.0 on TripAdvisor, and currently ranked #2 of 79 nightlife venues in Southampton.
