Rich and Fancy was established in October 2015 and has been trading for 11 years. The business started after the success of their stall at the Horbury street fair. Originally it started as a cupcake business but now has grown into a beautiful, unique cafe serving delicious home made food. Our cakes are very popular and are all home made. We serve sandwiches, salads, platters, soups and our signature afternoon teas. We host a Supper club on the last Saturday of the month, which is always sold out and we hold a waiting list because of it's popularity. The potential to grow the restaurant side of the business is excellent.
We regular host events such as children's baking workshops, baby showers, parties and art and craft classes. Our buffets and outside catering is also a hit, as people are demanding hand made, delicious food with the wow factor. Richard is the chef and owner and we offer full waiter/waitress service.
Since expanding into the shop next door in 2023, we have increased our covers and takeways and also offer art workshops, such as painting, printing, ceramics and guest artists deliver their unique classes.
The business presently operates across 2 shops which are leasehold from our landlords, who are well established people in the town. Ideally we would like to sell both sides of the businesses to the same buyer but we are open to offers to sell them as separate businesses, as they have been in the past. In the past one was a deli and the other a cafe -we have run them both as cafe/restaurant and take away. There is a range of uses which would suit the space. A description of each is below:
Shop/lease 1- 1 dining room/shop space with integral kitchen. 12 covers at present- could be more with change of layout. Cake display counter, drinks area with espresso coffee machine and grinder and preparation area and sinks. Stairs lead to the first floor, leading to 2 large storage rooms, one of which is presently used as an art room with large window overlooking a beautiful, quaint street. Upstairs staff toilet and bathroom. Back door leads to a shared yard with other businesses and bin storage area. Upstairs would make an ideal prep room for someone who wanted to expand the present offer. It had ovens and refridgeration when we first took over.
Shop/lease 2-1 dining room/shop space with integral kitchen. 20 covers at present. The kitchen area is where owner/chef prepares hot and cold food for breakfast, lunch and supper club evenings. At present all our food is prepared fresh and the chef bakes every morning for the day ahead. Large window overlooking the street, brings light into the coffee shop and offers a great space for parties and events and also art and craft workshops and baking parties. Bathroom and toilet for customers.
At present a gently sloping ramp adjoins both shop spaces and there is a front entrance door for each shop. This makes access good for the elderly and people with reduced mobility. We run one business across both shops but if someone wanted one shop/lease the throughway can be blocked back up.
The cafe is very popular and is often full to capacity in both rooms on all days of opening. We do take bookings and the diary always has bookings months ahead for parties, afternoon teas and other orders. Our takeaway side of the business is growing and we have a regular customer base for takeaway coffee and drinks, sandwiches and salads.
At present the business is on a BYOB basis but there is huge potential growth for someone who wishes to have a license as Horbury is a popular town for an evening out. The shop is located in prime position and is close to other popular shops and bars on the High street. There is car parking straight opposite the shop and blue badge parking on the road directly outside. There is an excellent bus service from Wakefield and other adjacent villages and towns. The shop is extremely busy on the annual Horbury street fayre , where we have a stall opposite and sell over 1000 cupcakes every year. Visitors come from miles around.
We also offer outside catering to local businesses, schools and corporate clients and they regularly order for their events and staff training days.
The shop is renovated to a high standard and has an excellent turnover. The annual turnover has increased each year we have traded and there has never been a week when we haven't made a profit. Fixtures and fittings are included in the price . This business in very strong and we are still trading. It is an excellent opportunity for someone to take over our outstanding reputation and wonderful customer base and trade straight away and also to grow and expand further in the future.
