My wife, Radka, was a talented costumier and seamstress who founded "Aladdin's Cave" approximately six years ago. This venture began with around 3,600 costumes, initially housed in a rented 1,000 square foot warehouse in Huntingdon. The business thrived, providing costumes for local residents, schools, and theatre groups. Our aspiration was to purchase a property with enough land to construct our own facility. Eventually, we acquired the old rectory in Ramsey and built a 1,000 square foot warehouse in our back garden.
Regrettably, our plans took a negative turn when the builder we hired proved to be a con artist. Before we could open our doors, the building collapsed, leaving us without a proper space for our growing inventory. To accommodate the now 4,000 costumes, we had to rent four metal humidity-controlled containers. During this tumultuous period, Radka became severely ill and was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2022. Sadly, she lost her battle in August 2023, which has led to the need to sell the company.
Business Overview
Aladdin’s Cave Costume Hire has been established for over 12 years, with Radka owning the business for the last six. Remarkably, there is no competition in the area, making this an outstanding opportunity for a new owner to take advantage of a unique market niche. Along with the business, the sale includes essential fixtures and fittings, such as display and hat rails, enhancing the value of the offering.
Financial Highlights
The current turnover stands at £28,000, demonstrating a positive growth trend over the past year. The asking price for the freehold is £22,000, and all stock is included in this sale, representing a significant investment for aspiring entrepreneurs in the costume hire industry.
Reason for Sale
The decision to sell comes as a result of Radka’s passing in 2023, marking the end of an era for a business that brought joy and imagination to many. This is a heartfelt opportunity for someone passionate about costumes and community engagement to continue what Radka built with love and dedication.
