SportsPackages.co.uk was set up in late 2022 as Footballweekender.co.uk and sold only a few packages last season before other business commitments overtook. This is an early-stage niche ticket & hotel package business offering Soccer and Formula 1 breaks. We started trading last year as Football Weekender and pivoted to add in F1 this season. Commitments to other businesses has restricted our capacity to grow this as it needs time spent on marketing.
We have multiple contracts with authorised tickets suppliers covering all major European leagues and F1. Hotels are provided by 2 hotel wholesalers with contracts included in the sale. We have only handled 3 large bookings so far as we have not undertaken any marketing and generated £700 profit. The bookings are typically very late with clients ordering 1-2 weeks before an event unless it is a very in-demand game. We have specifically targeted the leisure market but the tickets we have access to also include corporate hospitality so this is another very large market available on ticket only basis. The website is fully bookable and has a core of products available at present.
Football Weekender was for the international market of football fans who enjoy short Football-orientated trips. It generated only around £700 of profit last season on a few groups from Germany to England and England to Spain. We did not active marketing due to lack of time and they found us online.
We decided to rebrand early this year to offer Formula 1 packages in addition to the Football packages. Lack of time has resticted our ability to market these and now is the perfect opportunity as the new season approaches and interest grows.
The user has the option of booking a ticket only or ticket and hotel package – if they select the hotel option, we book them a 3* near to the venue. We do not allow guests to select a specific hotel as we work with multiple suppliers and seek to book one with the highest margin.
Typical margins are 20% on hotel and ticket and 10-15% on ticket only.
This market is very late-booking orientated particularly for Premier League games.
We have experience in the ticketing market and know the most popular leagues are:
Premier League – inbound visitors to the UK booking in advance and late domestic clients
La Liga – international guests as very affordable
Formula 1 – always sells out very far in advance
Serie A – similar to La Liga with affordable tickets
Our profit has been on 1 x group inbound to the UK to Tottenham Hotspur, 1 x group to La Liga and 1 x group to Serie A.
When setting up this business we did not anticipate the demand and its not something we can undertake at present.
Formula 1 is incredibly popular and we have multiple suppliers for each track. We rebranded specifically to target this market and this has opened up other potential products such as MLS, Rugby, MLB, UFC and NHL. Tournaments such as PGA Golf tour, Six Nations and ATP are also available.
Future growth
HUGE potential growth for someone/team that has the time to dedicate to marketing. This is a very hot industry at the moment with live sport in demand and tickets very difficult to acquire for many events. We have authorised agents and guarantee tickets together with some very good hotel packages. F1 was added this season but lack of time to build SEO and PPC has restricted this. The growth of our supplier list has also led to opportunities in a myriad of other sports in the US, Canada and Europe. The biggest opportunity is the sale of packages for US/Canadian visitors to Europe and specifically the UK for the EPL packages. PPC would be the easiest means of accessing this market but SEO would deliver over time.
