The town is located at the eastern end of the Isle of Purbeck and is a popular tourist destination with award-winning sandy beaches. It is located at the beginning of the World Heritage Jurassic coastline which is very popular with walkers and tourists.
The town is home to many galleries, tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and shops as well as the historic Swanage Steam Railway which runs through the picturesque Purbeck countryside.
