We are offering the opportunity to the right person to purchase one of the most successful food businesses in Margate. Master Foody Moody’s falls into a unique area in the local food spectrum. We serve high quality, fresh, healthy food that is full of flavour and happens to also be fully plant-based. We are at present, one of only two fully plant-based food establishments in Margate and the only one that looks at the fresh health side of veganism.

We do not flaunt the vegan angle but are known by vegans to be vegan. Thus we also act as a salad bar, juice bar and whole-food outlet/cafe to everyone else. We have also taken the role of fast food “quick stop” for your falafel wrap and veggie burger.Our biggest sellers are the wrap, burger and salads, and the business could easily be limited to these main items should you choose to simplify.Last year we also set up 'The Quench Bar'. It is the first and only juice bar in Margate. 

Due to an exceptionally busy 3rd quarter, we never officially launched The Quench Bar. It has only touched on its full potential. The Quench Bar can be run as part of the business – we have infrastructure that allows this - or it can be run as an independent business with its own counter etc.

LOCATION: Master Foody Moody’s is in a key position in the Old Kent Market and is the first thing you see on entering. This is a huge help to attract customers. The Old Kent Market is one of the main features of the old town and is located perfectly to capture all who venture to the gallery and Harbour Arm. 

In the summer evenings, people flood off the beach into the market and business can be very busy until around 8 pm.

This is one of the best locations in Margate. It has low overheads and cooperative use of items such as commercial bins, ovens, lighting etc. Not to mention a great group of people at the market, that look after each other.

WHAT ARE WE OFFERING

It is essentially one unit and is required to remain so. Currently, we have the main counter on one side and the Juice bar counter on the other. We have designed the kitchen to use the space to the maximum capacity for cooking and serving food. It is a fully functional kitchen and a great space to work and serve food.

We acquired this last year and currently use it for storage and stock. We had planned to sell vegan ice creams and popsicles as it has a door /selling window looking over the road and is the first thing people would see leaving the Turner Gallery. It has the potential for good revenue as it is a highly visible and high traffic area.

We are effectively offering the right person the entire business as is. It includes all the equipment and items we presently use to run the business. It also includes recipes, hand-over training, stock, and a customer base including our WhatsApp list.

OPTION: To the right person, we would take the time to integrate you with the entire process, suppliers we deal with, how products are made etc.

OTHER POINTS TO KNOW ABOUT

The Old Kent Market itself has rules and, some of them are worth mentioning:-

1) You are required to open at least four days a week (we have closed for periods in the winter months and that is fine, but it does not serve the other stalls and the wellbeing of the market if the stalls are closed).

2) You cannot deep fat fry in the market, so no chips!

3) No duplication on what other people in the market are selling. (This is pretty loose but the basic idea is if you are a salad bar then someone else cannot do that. For example, we don’t sell coffee but we do sell cakes and others do too, but ours our vegan, so if there is some conflict or possible conflict we tend to talk to the people who it may conflict with and get clear on it.

During the lockdown, we operated a delivery system including online ordering, using insulated delivery bags and this proved very successful. 

As a producer of quality foods and salads we were often asked to do outside catering which we did at times but chose to focus more on the shop, but it is another revenue source available.

There is a lot of scope to grow the business and also flexibility relative to hours of opening. We have in the past closed the stall in the winter for a break or cut down the days to only four days a week to balance out the business of the summer months.

Margate is a seaside town so, the summer is king and you would expect to be extremely busy and take full advantage of the financial opportunity. However, we have also built up a loyal local customer base and good traffic from the Turner Gallery in the winter months.

PERSONAL POINTS

The reason we are selling, as with most things, is not black and white but, primarily it is to focus more on our sister project in India which has developed far beyond our original expectations and in the short term to serve the elderly family.

If this were not the case, and as you can tell from our recent expansion, we were planning to develop the quench bar and vegan ice-cream/ popsicle business this coming season. We would be happy to share our insight into what we can see regarding expansions and the next steps we were considering taking/ further ways to maximise profits, should that be of interest.

For us, Master Foody Moody’s has been a very happy project that bought many people together. It kept a core team of people creatively expressing themselves and for the most part happily working together and able to be an integrated part of Margate at this exciting time in its history and growth.
