Mobile sawmill operation, fully operational setup (Mill, trailers, forklift, ancilliary tools) complete with activeand effective marketing established and functioning (Website, Google My Business and Facebook pages, eBay adds)
Two distinct offerings:,
1) Mobile sawmill service: Taking the mill to clients' farm/estate/garden etc. to mill their trees in situ. Generates significant value for customer on their site, elminating the costs and difficulties of transporting large heavy trees to static sawmills.
This side of the busines is service only: there is no need to have any premises to store timber. The only requirement is to have a vehicle to pull the mill on its trailer. The trailer measures 8' x 5x' weighing less than 750 Kg (i. E. unbraked) an can be pulled by most cars, though a 4x4 is recommended as you also need to carry two 6m aluminimum rails.
This model is cash generative, with minimal running costs other than fuel for vehicle and saw. Typical milling day rate is £550 (ex vat, ex mileage). The service typically creates something like £2500 worth of timber for the tree owner, so is easily cost justified.
2) Timber sales. This is following a more traditional sawmill model buying in sawlogs and then milling them into timber for sale. With the current demand for timber well in excess of supply, this is a highly profitable model, with significant volume. potential. It does require access to a suitable pice of land where sawlogs can be stacked and milled. Typically sawlogs can be purchased in bulk for around £100-£130/ton: milled timber cladding, for example, sells out at around £14 sqm, which is the equivalant of £3000/ton. The mill can easily create 50sqm of cladding in a day shift with a single operator. Double that with an additional labourer.
