West Sussex based Pet Supplies Wholesaler established 30 years.
Price reduced to facilitate early sale due to retirement of current owner.
Formed almost 30 years ago the current owner works in the warehouse five days a week with the assistance of two people (one FTE) who undertake deliveries and assist with packing.
The business entails the packaging and delivery to shops throughout the South East of England of a range of domestic pet products including dog biscuits, wet and dry pet food, bedding (hay, straw, woodshavings), treats and toys for domestic pets including dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, budgies, parrots, cockatiels, goldfish and tropical fish together with wild bird seed, peanuts, sunflower hearts and fat balls. New products are regularly added in response to customer demand and the changing profile of domestic pet ownership.
From our 1000sq ft warehouse in rural West Sussex we service convenience stores, Post Offices and petrol stations throughout Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Middlesex, Essex, Oxfordshire and London approximately 50% of monthly turnover is on credit terms through major retail chains with the balance being cash on delivery.
In 2018 the computerised weighing/bagging machine used for bulk products was upgraded at a cost of £17,000. Additional warehouse equipment includes a fork lift truck (used to unload palletised deliveries of stock), two pallet trucks, sealing and labelling machines. Deliveries are made using a 63 plate VW Crafter long wheelbase van.
This would be an ideal “ready-made” business to add to an existing similar operation or for someone seeking a straightforward business opportunity in the South East of England - however given the spread of businesses served the operation could be relocated. Scope for development through website/local retail sales and addition of new product lines.
No prior experience of the trade is necessary and the vendor is willing to offer training and assistance to the new owners during a 6-8 week handover period which will ensure a smooth transition following the sale of the business.
During the Coronavirus pandemic the business has traded throughout supporting stores who have benefited from the "shop local" ethos - as a result average weekly turnover is up almost 40% and (after 13 weeks) shows no sign of slowing down.
Price excludes Stock which is typically maintained at £20-25,000.
