The Ship Inn is located in a densely inhabited suburb consisting of ex-council houses and rows of terraces. Greasbrough itself has a largely aging population of about 2,000 residents, who are predominantly white. Rotherham and the areas that surround it are founded on a strong work ethic, with a history closely linked with the coal, steel and iron industries. Today, most of the residents work within light industry and service, and there are plenty of shops, leisure centres, pubs and takeaways in the local area.
The Ship Inn enjoys good street presence, sitting on a prominent corner site on the main B6089 road that runs through Greasbrough, a small suburb about 2 miles north of the centre of Rotherham. It’s a popular place in a hard-working area, where a sense of community is key. The trading area is open plan with an area for pool, darts and sports viewing. A small kitchen services the pub, catering for up to 40 covers at full capacity. Outside, there is a pleasant patio drinking area and a smoking solution, and the pub has on-site parking for six vehicles.
