This is a long established and well respected local bakery, founded nearly 130 years ago and it is anticipated that the business will be of particular interest to an experienced baker or regional bakery.
Established in 1888, this traditional bakers and confectioners is based in the Dartmoor town of Bovey Tracey in Devon. There are two shops and the one at Bovey Tracey also houses the bakery, whilst the second shop is just 11½ miles away in the centre of the Dartmoor national park at Chagford. The bakery also has a wholesale side to the business, supplying local shops, hotels, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
The Bovey shop is a traditional, single fronted shop of approximately 347 sq ft, with an eye catching window display of the baker’s tempting cakes and pastries. The bakery, which is located behind the shop, is a rectangular shaped area of approximately 1,000 sq ft, with various sections including: a preparation and mixing area; a washroom; a preparation and baking area; and the refrigeration area.
The Chagford shop is well presented with a floor area of approximately 160 sq ft and a single Victorian style shop front. There is also a small preparation room for making sandwiches and the inventory items include a Leventi Bakermat.
The main Shop and Bakery premises are located on a busy main road leading into the centre of Bovey Tracey. There is 20 minutes free parking outside and one of the town’s reasonably priced public car parks is just a short walking distance away.
The smaller Chagford shop is located just off the busy Town Square.
This is a retirement sale, with the current owners having owned and managed the business since 1988. The Vendors believe that there is the potential to expand the business further through developing more wholesale trade and with more hands on retail management of the shops. Newton Abbot, Exeter and Torbay are within a reasonable driving distance and so there must also be the potential for opening further shops.
Both the properties would be let on FRI leases, with £20,000 p.a. rent for Bovey Tracey and £7,800 p.a. for Chagford. Alternatively, the residue of the 199 year lease on the Chagford property may be purchased for £78,000.
