Company History Thomas V Shaw & Co Ltd is truly a family business named after the original proprietor who established the business in the 1940’s originally selling businesses and commercial properties in East Lancashire. Over the years the company has expanded to provide a wide range of property related services including Property Surveys and Valuations, Property Management, Compulsory Purchase work and Advice relating to the Renting and Ownership of all properties both Residential and Commercial. Three generations of the Shaw family have worked in the business to ensure its continuation and to provide knowledge and expertise of the highest standard. Mr Thomas Shaw was born and lived his early life in Ribchester. He was decorated for gallantry gaining the British Empire Medal and mentioned in dispatches in the Second World War. On returning to Blackburn after the war he opened his first business in 1947 on Whalley New Road, Blackburn. Mr Shaw ran the business until 1990 when he retired and the business transferred to his son in law David Briffett and his wife, Mr Shaw’s daughter, Lynn Briffett. David Briffett Hons B.Sc (MRICS) is a Chartered Surveyor who has been undertaking valuations and surveys for over 30 years in and around East Lancashire. He is a graduate of the University of Wales and has lived all his life in the Blackburn area. Until recently David was a College Governor and Chairman of a National Charity for the Homeless. He continues to sit on Wilpshire Parish Council, as he has done for many years. Lynn Briffett runs the Property Management Department for the company and offers Commercial Management experience of over 10 years. Lynn previously worked for a firm of Baliffs and in Banking. The business expanded its horizons at the beginning of 2009 when Hilary Slaven a solicitor for over 30 years joined the firm. Hilary is a graduate of Newcastle University and has over 30 years experience in property work. She now provides advice on landlord and tenant queries, boundary disputes and any other related property matters. Other staff include, Mrs Chantal Hodgson and Mrs Sarah Vernon-Beesley, Senior Sales Negotiators and Receptionists and Miss Beverley Lang, Senior Secretary in Charge of the Valuation Department.
