The surrounding area is a desirable and densely populated residential area characterised by traditional tenement style properties as well as imposing sandstone villas designed by Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson, with the area being home to a good mix of families, young professionals and students.

The Strathbungo area has become synonymous with stylish bars and restaurants, and is home to a number of quality establishments including  Zinfandel, Lunar, Six by Nico, Sur Lie and Moyra Janes Brasserie, all forming a popular neighbourhood circuit. The premises also benefit from the nearby  Pollokshaws Road and the Shawlands licensed circuit.

Other nearby attractions and amenities include Queens Park, The Tramway Theatre, the Hidden Gardens and Hutchesons Grammar School.

The subjects are easily accessed with good road links, and free on street parking, as well as benefitting from the close proximity of Pollokshields East, Pollokshields West and Queens Park Railway Stations.

THE PROPERTY

The subjects comprise part ground floor and basement of this 3-storey with basement, traditional, blonde sandstone tenement style property, all under a pitched tiled roof.

DESCRIPTION

The subjects are accessed via an entrance in the centre of the property, with extensive frontage on either side, and prominent signage above.

Internally, the premises have been well designed and fitted, retaining many original features including exposed stone & brick walls, hardwood floors and ornate high ceilings. Upon entering the property there is a large pencil on canvas drawing by the renowned Scottish artist Nicol Wheatley featuring the bar and the Strathbungo area, and there is a variety of artwork on the walls.

Ground

The ground floor area is split into 3 separate sections.  The main bar area is positioned to the left-hand side and is home to a large, stylish bar/servery counter with seating provided for approximately 80 customers by way of a mix of booths, banquet seating, loose tables, chairs & stools. To the front right of the property there is a small snug area with seating for approximately 28 customers which features more hand painted Nicol Wheatley artwork on the walls, and there is a larger dining area to the rear for a further 44 customers, again with original features including a fireplace.

Ground floor ancillary areas include a fully equipped commercial kitchen with separate dishwash area, as well as male, female & disabled toilets

Basement

The basement is accessed via a stairwell in the centre of the property and is home to a large function and event space with capacity for approximately 100 people.  The space has a very trendy and rustic feel to it with exposed brick walls, concrete and timber floors, as well as stylish wallpaper from Timorous Beasties.  This area benefits from a large bar/servery and there is also a removable stage. There is a flat screen television on the wall as well as a projector screen.

The basement benefits from a separate kitchen and male & female toilets.  Other ancillary areas include a large chilled cellar, office, staff/locker area, and a number of ancillary storage areas.

THE BUSINESS

Our clients established The Bungo in December 2011 and were one of the frontrunners in making the Strathbungo eating and drinking scene the vibrant circuit that it is today.  The business is obviously well established in the area and is something of a local institution, with a loyal and regular clientele with a good mix of custom including young professionals, students and families as well as tourists and visitors to Queens Park and the surrounding amenities.

The Bungo enjoys an excellent reputation for its quality food and service, all served in a relaxed environment with a real neighbourhood spirit, serving up a variety of contemporary menus including brunch, small plates, a la carte, as well as catering for vegans and gluten free. The Bungo is also extremely popular with people just having a drink, with an extensive drink’s menu featuring beers, wines, cocktails, spirits and soft drinks, as well as for people just wanting to grab a coffee or have a business meeting.

The Bungo is a real hub of the community and plays host to a weekly pub quiz as well as hosting a variety of events in the basement function/event space including regular themed food & drink nights, comedy nights, improv nights, chess nights, still life painting classes etc.  The basement is also popular for function hire for events such as birthdays, christenings, funerals etc.

The business is run completely under management with a strong team of staff in place.  The business trades Mon-Thu: 10am-10:30pm, Fri/Sat: 10am-midnight, and Sunday 10am-9pm.
