It needs a younger set of hands at the helm, I have run the business for the last 20+ years and made it into a stunning showroom covering three floors. The building is an old co-op. We have the main entrance and its showroom then we have a basement showroom and a further upper floor showroom all covering some 4000 sq feet. Its a bit of a 'tardis' it looks small from the outside but. . When people get inside they cannot believe the range and scope of the products we have available. We do not deal with rubbish. Just good to great well priced and affordable bathrooms and all the bits that go with it.
We compete very easily with the so called big boys because we buy very well with some of the best terms in the business. We prefer to keep a quailty about our sales. We endevour never to rip anyone off and our reputation is for great products at affordable prices. People want quality and the bigs boys have got it all wrong buying cheap chinese products and fobbing them off on people as good quality when in fact they are not.
We try wherever possible to use UK base suppliers. We deal with many EU companies. This way we know the provenance of our products and we can get spares or repairs easily.
We created a new independant web store some two years ago and that has been growing steadily on average it returns some 8 to 12K per month with the scope to do better. The showroom sales have been growing steadily thanks to some new marketting and we are showing a 32% increase over 2009 / 10. Turnover this year is expected to be in the region of 450K. We also have an eaby store and this generates some good sales and gets the name around.
The Showroom also has it's own web site with links to the main web store.
The showroom is situated just off the main road on a busy street. Easy parking outside the shop or in our small carpark which also has the three steel storage containers where we keep our stock. There is some in store storage available. We try to operate a JIT just in time operation so we do not keep masses of stock. This works well. The building is detatched and I think if the right offer is made to the landlords they will now sell as none of us is getting any younger.
The lease terms are usually over a 5 year period. Longer or shorter terms can be negotiated. The rent is £17000. 00 per year and the building has a rates of some £8000pa. We think this is high so we are trying to get this reduced and a claim is in process.
We offer an in house design package this is uite easy to do. We have looked at the 3 design packages and you could always go down this route if you prefer.
We are always busy. We have weathered more than one recession and we will weather this one. 32% UP in a recession! ! Well thats just brilliant. Don't get me wrong its not easy. We operate Monday - tuesday - Thursday - Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 Saturday 10:00 to 5:00 and now Sundays from 11:00 to 3:00 PM. We are closed wednesdays. But you could open if you want to.
All in all if you are looking to save all the time and expense of setting up a new business, then I could have exactly what you need, straight out of the box and already to run.
I would say it would suit a husband and wife team or a partnership. You have the chance to flourish.
