Situated on the edge of the village of Penybont, just north of Llandrindod Wells, Midway Nurseries (trading as ‘The Plantsmiths’) has built up a loyal customer base and with road frontage to the A44 also benefits from passing trade. The site of just under an acre has been set out to provide facilities for both the growing and retailing of plants.
The Nursery The nursery area includes eight polytunnels (of various sizes) and a large glass house. A propane gas supply (from an underground tank) is connected to the larger of the tunnels and the glass house.
There is a large irrigation tank from which water can be pumped to all parts of the nursery. Currently the nursery grows all its own bedding, patio, basket and vegetable plants for which they have an excellent reputation. There is a big demand for hanging baskets and containers which are sold to local businesses and individuals.
The present owners also grow some perennial and alpine plants but this range is complemented by plants bought in from UK growers. Retail Sales Area The outside sales area is tidy and well laid out with timber benches to display the range of plants.
In addition to the plants grown on site the nursery sells a full range including shrubs and conifers, herbaceous perennials, roses, clematis and other climbers, fruit trees and bushes and ornamental trees. There is one tunnel to which customers have access which is used for the sale of summer bedding and is fully benched.
There are two covered areas which are currently used for the sale of plants and pots. There is an attractive timber framed sales building (approximately 14m by 5.5m) which is used to sell garden sundries and gifts.
The shop fittings are designed so that the displays can change with the seasons to promote different products. All shop fittings and display benching are included in the purchase price.
There is a tarmac car parking area with space for around 16 cars. The House The brick house was originally built in the early 20th Century and extended in 1994 to create a spacious five bedroom house. Accommodation includes: Kitchen (recently refitted) with dining area Large utility room and downstairs toilet Office with direct access to outside Sitting room Large hall Four double bedrooms One single bedroom Family bathroom (recently re-fitted) Surrounding the house is an area of private garden including lawns, borders and a vegetable plot.
There is a small garden shed, two domestic size greenhouses (with power supply) and an attached ‘garage’ (although unlikely to suit a modern car! ). There is mains water and electricity supplied. Drainage is by private sceptic tank. There is oil fired central heating. The underground propane gas tank which supplies the gas to the tunnels also supplies the coal effect gas fire in the sitting room.
Further Opportunities The planning permission for the site was for ‘garden centre’ use. Although the present business is trading successfully and future owners may choose to carry on running it in a similar manner there may be opportunities to extend the operations to include other activities such as a farm shop, coffee shop or garden design/landscaping business. These would be subject to planning approval.
Staffing and Other Useful Information The nursery currently employs two part time staff (one throughout the year and the other on a seasonal basis). It is hoped that they will continue to work for the new owners and that their knowledge and experience will be valuable assets. The present proprietors will be pleased to pass on all information to ensure a smooth transition between owners such as growing plans, names of suppliers etc. | | | | | | FOR SALE | | | | | REFERENCE: | 47922 / RightBiz | | | | | | Request more information about this business.. | | ENQUIRIES: | | | | CONTACT SELLER TO GET THE SELLERS DIRECT CONTACT DETAILS AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS ONLY | | | | | | | | | | | |
