Our client is based in Worcestershire and conducts his business from a home run office, hence the business is fully re-locatable.
BUSINESS HISTORY
Our client is renowned throughout the landscaping industry and has attained an enviable reputation with both corporate clients and competitors, as well as architects who refer business continually.
The consultancy was formed by the current owner in 2002. A desire to slow down with a small active role has prompted the vendor to place the business on the market.
FINANCIALS
The first 3 quarters of 2009 are showing a profit before tax and director’s remunerations of approximately £85,000. Orders for the last quarter of 2009 are buoyant. Projections indicate a trading profit of approximately £95,000 to £110,000 for 09 calendar year.
SERVICES
Our client is primarily involved in the landscape architectural and design services including urban design, environment regeneration and master planning.
The practice also has situational crime expertise (secured by design). Other skills include hardworks detailing, planting, design, sustainable urban drainage/source control and rainwater harvesting, innovative bespoke designs including public artwork, podium decks and green solutions are conducted.
Our client conducts his services nationwide including tree surveys and assessments, landscape appraisals and EIA’s together with planning appeals.
Services include:
• Landscape architectural and urban design – landscape proposals, environmental vocabularies and guidance produced for rural and urban schemes including the public realm and private spaces. Feasibility studies undertaken.
• Master planning & site planning – strategic plans for the development of sites prepared and detail plans of each phase produced to client’s requirements
• Bespoke scheme specialists: including civic spaces and public art – the practice commissions Artistic works for public spaces and appoints artists, sculptures’ etc to ensure pieces are suitable for the client’s schemes

• Sustainable urban drainage & source control – surface water run off designed using attenuation or infiltration methods are incorporated the landscape proposals enhancing the sites ecology and complying with discharge restrictions
• Planting plans & softworks specifications – designed prepared for sites based on soil, aspect and microclimate. Specification written for successful establishment of schemes. Operation and maintenance manuals also available
• Situational crime review expertise – The principal obtained the first ‘ secure by design’ award issued by West Midlands Police in 1993 for ‘Duddeston Manor Estate’ improvement scheme. Consultancy services include crime prevention measures
• Environment impact assessments – Full EIA’s or landscape and visual assessment undertaken to current guidance
• Tree surveys – tree surveys in accordance with B.S. 5837:2005 undertaken. Ecological surveys and recommendations by Chartered Ecologist as sub-consultancy service
• Garden designs – individual designs produced for client’s needs by independent consulting using contractors appointed after competitive tenders to deliver quality and value. All works supervised by chartered landscape architect.
Our client offers all landscape services so that a single appointment covers all environment needs.
STAFFING
The business is currently staffed by the vendor/director on a full time basis together with a part time administrator.

Mainly consisting of blue chip companies which were unaffected by the recession such as:

HANDOVER
Our client is willing to conduct a very detailed and intricate handover during a 3 – 6 months induction. He is also prepared to work for the new owners on a consultancy basis to ensure the retention of the clients over the long term. Details can be refined during negotiations.
The decision for this is that our client is still in his mid 40’s and he and the company has reached the point now that in order to cope with the increased levels of work coming in he would need to employ several more people. Our client admits he is not a man manager. His alternative is to sell the business and if necessary the new owners can retain his services on a 1 or 2 day per week basis.
