We run fun clubs for young children, teaching them French (and Spanish if required) whilst having a wonderful time. We teach in primary schools and nurseries. The turnover is in excess of £22,000 and income net of tax and expenses is over £15,000 per annum. This is for no more than 20 hours work per week which breaks down into 14 hours teaching, term-time only, and 6 hours for preparation and travel. It is possible for someone with no French/teaching skills to run this business using self-employed French tutors. I did this myself when I had to stay at home to care for my disabled daughter. There is plenty of scope to expand the business as schools are keen on breakfast clubs (which I cannot offer) and more after-school clubs. Marketing is done directly through the schools and nurseries and so is very low in cost. Head Office offers a huge amount of support. They employ a PR company, they have a prize-wining website (which I am not allowed to name here but you can find it easily enough) and they have a dedicated sales support person who tours the country and will even accompany you on visits to new schools. There is one other franchisee operating in the immediate area. This a former employee of mine and we are on very good terms. He has far fewer clubs and has not been able to set up groups in nurseries because they generally prefer to use female teachers.
