BUSINESS DETAILS:

The shop is on one of the main streets of mevagissey, and oozing character. It has a beamed ceiling, and a woodburner to welcome folk in the winter. With The Eden Project and The Lost gardens of Heligan down the road, there is trade throughout the year. At present the stock consists of bears, english ceramics, a huge range of humourous cards including Simon Drew, and limited edition prints. Repeat business comes from both locals and holidaymakers, who return year after year. This year's projected turnover is £37,000, an increase of 7% (so far) on last year. The business could be significantly expanded by adding a website - increasing numbers of customers ask for this service. I have run the business for 5 summers, increasing turnover every year. I am selling the property only because i am emigrating to New Zealand, and so the sale will include more than average fixutres and fittings. I open 7 days a week, but vary the hours as convenient. When we have summers, i often go swimming in the sea before, or even during, working hours. There is a built-in dresser unit, a raised window shelf, and glazed door to a set of glass shelves in a smaller window. At the rear is a store room, at present with washing machine as well as stock. In the pine floor are two storage lockers, one used as a coal hole, created from the original fish cellar. The shop is heated by a very efficient and attractive closed stove. This can burn driftwood, or will keep in overnight with coal. Upstairs is a cosy sittingroom, with a beamed ceiling and Victorian fireplace (at present blocked off, but could be opened). Sash windows. The kitchen has wooden work benches, with fridge and freezer under, and an antique french range cooker. One side works on solid fuel, the other is converted to Calor gas. There is a built in bench, and dining table. Beamed ceiling. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, both with beds made to fit the sloping floors. Bathroom with shower and airing cupboard, boarded attic accessed from bed 1. The whole house is filled with history, and has many period features, including a 19th century frieze along the stairwell.
